Name: Neil Sheppard Position: Executive Director Where are you from? Melbourne (with a few years in Sydney). What are your interests and hobbies? Running and gardening. I like being active and outside – particularly during the warmer months. What is your background in the insurance industry? As with most people, I just fell into insurance. Initially, I started my career as a trainee at Royal & Sun Alliance. That was a long time ago now, and I have had various underwriting roles since then at CGU, AIG, Chubb, and at a Lloyd’s Coverholder for eight years. I have extensive expertise in Financial Lines and General Lines. I have gained this experience in the corporate space and the SME space. I like the variety of clients and insurance products – it certainly makes the day interesting. What attracted you to Quantum? It is the people and culture. That is really important to me, and I spent a lot of time getting to know Alex, Peter and the team at Quantum. It has a family feeling to it. Everyone I spoke to has positive things to say about Quantum and straight away we got along really well. I also like the opportunity to learn some new products. The Specie class is really interesting and I have immersed myself in that; I recognise that I have a lot to learn in this varied area. Quantum have been looking to broaden their product mix, so with my knowledge in product classes that they didn’t currently write, it seems like a perfect match. There are plenty of other insurers and underwriting agencies - why should a broker use Quantum? Service, Experience and Flexibility. These qualities and skills permeate the business, whether it is Specie, Financial Lines or General Lines. The breadth of products now offered by Quantum, and our combined experience, is extensive. What does the future hold for yourself and/or Quantum? Exciting times. We are launching a lot of new products and the business continues to grow. Personally, I am looking forward to learning more about Specie, and directing the growth in Financial Lines and General Insurance.
